square series
Jack's square collages are assembled from his other watercolors, oil paintings and collages. He searches for square compositions within older pieces, trims them out and sets them aside. When reassembling them into larger square pieces he doesn't have an idea in mind instead he strives to create a composition using textures and contrasts. He chooses a few squares that catch his eye and builds on that. He decides on a final composition that has balance and movement. They are glued to a canvas that has been wrapped in paper or fabric that compliments the colors in the collage.
